Conference Programme
Risk and Issues Related to Nature: Current Scientific Situation
This panel will provide a scientific overview of the current environmental risks and challenges facing nature. It will draw upon the latest research to explore issues such as biodiversity loss, climate disruption, coral reef preservation, and their interlinked consequences. Contributions from international experts will be featured, alongside insights into the geopolitical dimension, particularly how shifting political priorities have, at times, impacted the central role of nature in global decision-making.
Sustainability and Impact Measurement
The second panel will focus on the tools and frameworks used to measure the environmental and social impacts of investments related to natural capital. Topics will include ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria, natural capital accounting, and how these approaches align with global frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The discussion will also draw upon contributions from the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, particularly its work on polar science, and explore the challenges surrounding data sourcing, processing, and delivery, all of which are critical for monitoring progress and ensuring transparency and credibility in impact reporting.
Solutions and Opportunities
The final panel of the morning will explore practical solutions and investment opportunities in the field of ecosystem services and natural capital. Discussions will cover mechanisms for the valuation and monetization of services provided by nature, such as carbon sequestration, water purification, and soil regeneration.
Key instruments such as carbon credits, biodiversity offsets, and sustainable land-use investments will be examined. The panel will also consider how investors assess environmental risks, including regulatory changes and biodiversity loss, while identifying long-term value creation through ecosystem restoration, regenerative agriculture, and nature-based solutions.
